Jak-chun-jung in Jakkwaecheon valley in Eonyang

The stream runs from 1,083m Gan-wol mountain over the sea to the front of Jak-chun-jung passing Dung-uk-ri, we call it Jak-goae-chun. From old times it is an oasis in Eonyang due to its clear water and beautiful scenery.

Drive 3km from Eonyang to the central-south and turn to the west road, we can meet tunnel of cherry trees aged 40 years, after passing this tunnel, we can see Jak-chun-jung. Its name is started because of purity of water and rock just like dangled liquor glasses. You can feel great scene of many gra nd, strange rocks in both side of valley after parking at the entrance parking lot. crystal water runs on worn-out crags. Even if it''s severe hot sultriness, we may forget about it through washing hand and our face. Jak-chun-jung is an arbor, which was built by local scholars to praise King Se-jong of Cho-sun age in the 20th year after coming to the throne, it''s a beautiful spot matched with clear water and white rocks. Becoming cool at this arbor, we may feel like to compose a poem or paint this beauty into a picture. In fall, we can appreciate the beauty of whole blazing mountain.

Many poets and painters has visited here from old times. But not always under romantic mood. This place was used for a plan about the 1919 Independence Movement, many local troops were dead in battle during Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592 and also it was open-air church when the religion of Chondokyo, Roman Catholic come in first. Like this, it was a nest for many patriots, a prouting place to fixation of religions and a place where many poets and painters developed studies. -transportation Buses run from Eonyang every 15 minutes and it takes 15 minutes to Jak-chun-jung.(30 minutes from Ul-san to Eonyang by bus) Drive along Kyung-bu Highway, more 4km on #35 national road passing Eonyang town from Eonyang IC, or go up to Jak-chun-jung through Tong-do-sa IC along Kyung-bu Highway.

The temple, Seongnamsa, is assumed to be founded by Monk Douiguksa in 824(the 16th year of King Heondeok's reign of the Unified Silla period). A stupa is a pagoda in which to attend on a noted monk's ashes.

This 3.53 meters high octagonal stupa is said to contain the sarira of Monk Douiguksa. Restored in May 1962, the stupa had a sarira in rectangular form in the upper-central part of the main body.

The carving of the lions, clouds, lotus and door-like designs is outstanding as are the guardian figures. The stupa is considered to be one of the best from the late Silla period.

However, there is a way for Koreans and foreigners to beat the heat and stay healthy this summer. Eating! Not just anything, but eating Korean dishes prepared especially for the summer! Read on to find out which foods will restore your strength and refresh your spirit this summer.

Soup for the Soul: Chicken Ginseng Soup, Samgyetang ( 삼계탕)

In Korea, the hottest period of the year is known as Boknal, which roughly translated means “the dog days of summer”. Boknal last for about a month, and during this time Koreans eat healthy food to try and keep their strength up in the hot weather. The first day of Boknal is known as Chobok, and this year it falls on July 14th. On Chobok, Koreans traditionally eat Chicken Ginseng Soup (Samgyetang).

Since Samgyetang is very high in nutritional value, it rejuvenates the body remarkably well. The dish is prepared by removing the chicken’s internal organs, adding garlic, glutinous rice, jujube, ginger, licorice root, and various other types of herbs, and boiling all the ingredients together. The dish is a great way to conquer fatigue and exhaustion during the hot months.

Although it might seem strange to eat a hot dish during summer time, you could say that Samgyetang “fights fire with fire”. Koreans believe that if you heat up the inside of your body with a hot soup, then the outside of your body will actually feel cooler. You can also add a number of different ingredients to this dish. Though the price may be a little steep, you may want to try the extremely nutritious Abalone Samgyetang.

Sweet , Spicy, and Chewy Chicken, Jjimdak ( 찜닭)

 samgyetang (chicken ginseng soup) and jjimdak (seasoned and simmered chicken), chicken is definitely a quintessential summer food. Jjimdak is made with chicken that’s already been prepared, hot peppers, mushrooms, carrots, and other vegetables. At the end, starch noodles are added and the dish is cooked again at a high temperature. This dish is characterized by its spiciness, so it is good to eat with dongchimi (watery radish kimchi) on the side.

Regain lost appetite with broiled eel, Jangeo-gui ( 장어구이)

When summer comes, it is easy to lose your appetite. If you are feeling low, broiled eel provides a great boost. Eel contains Vitamin A and Vitamin E and is very good for blood circulation. It is also believed to be helpful in boosting stamina. Many visitors that travel to Korea enjoy this dish.

There are two ways of cooking Jangeogui, broiled eels. One way is to first season it with various spices such as hot pepper paste, sugar, soybean sauce, minced garlic and ginger, sesame oil, and then grill the eel. The other way is to season the eel only with salt and then grill it. Jangeo-deopbap, rice topped with broiled eel is also a popular dish. The towns of Pungcheon and Paju are famous for Jangeogui. Pungcheon in Jeollabuk-do province is on an estuary, so eals caught in Pungcheon are very delicious. There are also many famous Jangeogui restaurants in Paju in Gyeonggi-do Province, which is on the outskirts of Seoul.

Cool Down with Cold Noodles, Naengmyeon & Kongguksu ( 냉국수,냉면,콩국수)

During summer, Koreans enjoy eating cold noodles, cold bean noodles, and Kimchi noodles. Naengmyeon (Cold noodles), made from buckwheat, are enjoyed by many Koreans, and the dish was once a specialty item in North Korea, where it was actually eaten during the winter season. North Korean style noodles, Pyeongyang Naengmyeon and Hamheung Naengmyeon, have now become famous throughout Korea.

There are two types of cold noodles: mul-naengmyeon (buckwheat noodles in chilled broth) and bibim-naengmyeon(cold buckwheat noodles with vegetables, meat and sauce). Mul- naengmyeon includes sliced beef, boiled egg, cucumber, and pear, while bibim-naengmyeon also has hot and spicy seasoning.

Kongguksu (noodles in chilled white bean soup), which is made out of ground beans, is another good dish for those who have lost their appetite. Kimchi noodles, which are made from a mixture of kimchi broth and meat broth, is also a summer specialty. kimchi noodles have the special taste of kimchi, which is cooked for a long time, and meat is added to enhance the flavor of the dish. Rice can be added instead of noodles to make it even heartier.

As well as regular ice cream, a traditional dish called “Bingsu” is very popular in Korea during summer. Shaved ice is mixed with fruit, rice cakes, milk, ice cream, and syrup. Other ingredients are also added to create different types of Bingsu. Depending on which ingredient you add more of, the Bingsu has a different name, such as Sweet Red Bean Bingsu, Fruit Bingsu, Green tea Bingsu, and Coffee Bingsu.

If you want to try sweet red bean Bingsu with its original pure taste, then the cafe Meal Top is strongly recommended. The key to the success of this cafe was that it stuck to the traditional way of making Bingsu. The cafe does not use artificial food additives. Instead, it uses only well boiled red beans and fresh fruit as ingredients. Meal Top is located on 5th floor of the Hyundai Department Store in Apgujeong-dong in Seoul. Also, is famous for green tea bingsu and the cafe is famous for its varied fruit toppings.

Recently a string of low fat foods have been introduced into Korea, of these low fat yogurt is very popular in Korea. , where low-fat yogurt and yogurt bingsu are sold, is very popular with people who are on a diet.

         정동진은 강릉, 그럼 정서진은?
         충남 태안군은  만리포가 정서진(正西津) 이라고 선포식'을 했다.
         만리포해수욕장 일대를 동해안의 관광명소인 강릉 정동진(正東津)처럼 만들기 위해서다.
         만리포는 태안군이 한반도의 맨 서쪽인 정서진이라고 주장하는 곳이다.

          태안군 관광기획팀장은 "한반도의 중심인 충북 중원(충주)을 기준으로 할 때  정서진은
          만리포"라고 한다  " 선포식을 계기로 태안이 정서진이라는 점을 널리 알릴 것"이라고
          말했다.

         인천시 서구는 정서진이 서구 오류동 일대라는 입장이다.
         정동진의 반대편에 있기 때문에 정서진은 인천 연안부두터미널 인근 이라고 한다.   

         지방자치단체가 지명 마케팅에 열을 올리고 있다.  강릉 정동진의 성공한 사례를 봤기
         때문일까!.

          2007년 서해바다 만리포 앞 바다는 기름유출사건으로  세상을 놀라게 한곳이다,

         이곳에 세워 놓은 표지석 말대로 자원봉사자들이 " 서해의기적"을 이루어 낸곳이다.

                        

         기름으로 얼룩졌던 그 서해안 만리포가 이제 제모습을 드러내자

         그 이름을 정서진이라는 이름을 갖기 위해 오늘 세상에 아리는 선포식을 하는것이다.
          정서쪽이라고 선포식을 하는것은 관광상품화하여 좀더 많은 관광객을 유치하기 위함일
         것이다.

         정서진 선포식도 좋지만 어린이들과 함께 가족이 편한하게 즐길수있는 곳으로 투자하고
         보존하고 관리해야 될 것이다.
        
        지금 얼마나 좋은 해수욕장인가 ?  유명해지만 관리하고 보존하기 힘들어져 찾는 사람들이
         불편해지면 안하느니 만 못하다. 그런일이 없어야겠지만?

Hot Summer ! Fun ~ fun Haeundae Beach .

Fun ! Haeundae beach ! Busan's No.1 beach, Haeundae boasts an emerald seascape, fine sandy beach and beautiful attractions. With its hot springs and excellent recreational facilities, it is also one of the most visited places in Korea with 500,000 to 600,000/day tourists every summer.

The Haeundae is located at the southern part of in eastern Busan. It is also located near Jangsan Mountain of height of 634m along with 12 km of Sooyoung harbor to Songjung beach. 우리집 벽에는 "처음 처럼" 이 붙어 있다.

             우리집엔  "처음 처럼" 글자가 새겨진 천으로 된 액자가 십년 전부터 있었다. 
           무슨 용도로 나왔는지는  잘 모르겠지만 좋은 내용을 글로 쓴 것인 것 만은 틀림없다,
          용도를 어디에 , 어떻게 쓰든...우리집  벽에도 걸었다 두었다가  싫증나면   , 공부하는
           책상 위 유리 밑에 두고 열심히 하자는 뜻으로  마음을  다 잡는데 쓰이곤 했다 . 

          이 글귀가 우리 집으로  온 내력은 휴일이면 머리도 식힐 겸 산사의 경치도 보고
          어떤 땐 부처님께 참배도 하기 위해 범어사 청련암 이나  오른쪽 산먼당에 있는 계명암을 
         찾곤 했다  이날 산사의 상점에서 다기를 구경을 하다가 마음에 들어  하나를 사 다가  매일 보면서
         마음을 다 잡는데 쓰도록 하기위해  집 거실 잘보이는 곳에 걸어     두었다가,
       실정이 나면 책상 유리밑에 두고  마음이 해이 해지면  <처음처럼> 하자는 뜻이었다.

         그러나 좋은 말일수록 처음에는 그대로 하기위해 많이   따라도 해보다가 세월이 지나면
         흐지부지 해 지기 일쑤,  우리 집도 결국은 찻잔과 차도구 덮개로 전략하고 말았다. 그랬는데
          지난 봄날  봄맟이 준비를 하던중 다시 이것을 깨끗하게 세탁해서 벽에 걸어 두고 오늘에 이르고 있다. 
          우리집에만 그렇겠는 가! 이 "처음처럼"이 수없이 많이 팔려 나가는 것을 봤으며 전국적으로  
         엄청 많이 팔렸을 텐데 , 소기의 목적 대로 잘쓰이고 있을까? 생각도 해본다

         실천 하긴 참 어려운, 좋은 말이다.  잘 못되기전에 <처음처럼>  해야 되는 하는 생각을 가져보지만,
         보통   때 늦은 후에 이놈의 " 처음처럼 " 이 눈에 들어오니 그것이 문제이다.
